I sat down last Sunday to do our taxes. I have always been a hands on type of person; I never have liked to put the safety and security of my family in the hands of others. Anyway, I am really, really anal about the deductions. Bring on the mountains of paperwork because the details is where I really shine the best. This is probably why I am whom I am today. With that said, I ended up with about 51 pages of filings and clicked enter. It took the machine a bit fiddling with the sole proprietorship, personal, child credits and such. I went to get a cup of coffee and this popped up:
Transmission Confirmation Returns sent 2012 Federal Personal Returns transmitted on March 17, 2013, 5:51 PM PDT Estimated government acceptance date March 19, 2013 E-file status Check current e-file status
Hmnn. Looked good. So, I went about my evening duties of stirring up discord against the Nationals and thirteen minutes later an email binged over the Eminem playing on my Linux VLC MediaPlayer:
Your Federal Return Has Been Accepted!
What this means:
Congratulations! The IRS has accepted this return, and you’re finished with your taxes.
Wow! It was accepted two days in advance and on a Sunday evening! So, Big Brother now was sharpening his pencils and ready to attack. I had braced for audit as I figured many within the Industry had well placed friends. When you go to war you always prepare for casualties. Knowing I had paperwork in the feet as opposed to the pages I figured let’s do this thing. The recent scuttlebutt was that close to a million folks were in a strangle hold of 6 – 8 weeks and they filed back in January, so my proverbial audit would be postponed until August probably.
Monday came and went. Tuesday came and went. Then Wednesday:
Your refund was sent to your bank on March 25, 2013 for direct deposit. If your refund is not credited to your account by March 30, 2013, check with your bank to find out if it has been received.
No way. No way in hell. I reentered the information to the IRS and sure as hell it was there still! Now, this alone was against astronomical odds, but the IRS for reasons only known to them or the Puppet Masters, decided that Monday was too long to wait. They found fit to electronically deposit our funds early Thursday morning! That is about 92 hours from filing to receiving refund!
