NAMFS: The HALO Effect

I just got off the phone with a National Association of Mortgage Field Services Member whom asked me whether or not I write anything positive; more on point, she asked whether or not I would present an unbiased media format with respect to National Association of Mortgage Field Services Members should they choose to come forward. I never really gave it any thought as Eric Miller, the Executive Director of the National Association of Mortgage Field Services, has made it quite clear through his silence that the National Association of Mortgage Field Services would rather sweep the criminality under the rug than address it.

The default value that people assign to a new piece of information is to believe it. The reason for this is that almost all information received by the brain is trusted. When you place that on Heavy Rotation it acts as reinforcement. What humans perceive is a predigested version of reality.

75 years ago Orson Welles and his troupe of radio actors interrupted the Columbia Broadcasting System’s programming to “report” that our planet had been invaded. They hype created a mass panic ensued, with people across the Northeastern United States and Canada fleeing their homes. Within a month, newspapers had published 12,500 articles about the broadcast and its impact, although the story dropped off the front pages after a few days.

We are hardwired to believe authoritative figures. In a 24/7/365 Social Media world, our input of information comes from all avenues. With respect to the Property Preservation Industry there is NOT A SINGLE OTHER WEBSITE which has ever documented that which Foreclosurepedia does. The reality is that for the niche that Foreclosurepedia serves we are, bar none, the Authority.

Each and every minute of each and every day that a Member of the National Association of Mortgage Field Services is associated with their criminal compatriots, it ensures long term damage. While I could remain unsympathetic to this it is quite apparent that some of these Members are merely caught in the crossfire.

What I do as a journalist on my website is document the atrocities committed under the full authority of the Seal of the National Association of Mortgage Field Services. That is more than an opinion. Eric Miller has active knowledge of most of the circumstances I discuss. He additionally has active and ongoing knowledge about other matters which I have not covered … yet.

When the National Association of Mortgage Field Services has active knowledge of criminal activities committed by NAMFS Members; when these same Members are then allowed to display the NAMFS Logo, the National Association of Mortgage Field Services is sanctioning and condoning the reprehensible actions reported. You cannot have your cake and eat it too.

Sometimes a NAMFS Member will reach out to me and tell me about a fellow Member because they both are competing on a Contract. At the end of the day, I could care less whom is sending me information provided I am able to establish whom they are and how they have the knowledge. Oh, you didn’t know that, did you? Yes, many of you out there today; many brokers actually as well, are having your most intimate secrets whispered.

There are other websites out there whom take payments for writing about the Industry. I have never believed much in that. I would probably sell my website for the right price; allow advertising as a business strategy, but take payments from the Industry to orchestrate Interviews is unethical in my opinion. You see, when you receive money to promote a business which has already been shown to defraud, threaten and intimidate Contractors, then you loose the veracity of your Publication.

Edward Thorndike wrote about The HALO Effect in his 1920 Paper, The Constant Error in Psychological Ratings. The HALO Effect is a type of cognitive bias in which our overall impression of a person influences how we feel and think about a person’s character. That is primarily why like me or hate me, people come to Foreclosurepedia when they want the Truth. Foreclosurepedia is the ethereal representation of celebrity status in that we are the Internet’s Version of a Live Train Wreck.

Here’s the deal: If you are a Company whom works within the Property Preservation Industry and you want to distance yourself from the criminality, drop me a line. First and foremost, just like EF Hutton, when Foreclosurepedia Speaks Contractors Listen. The reality is that whether you are Interviewed or Advertise on Foreclosurepedia, Contractor’s KNOW WITH ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY that you have a Clean Bill of Health.
