Florida is a state with a high number of insurance claims, due to its frequent hurricanes and other natural disasters. One of the biggest dangers is that contractors may not get paid for their work. This can lead to a number of problems for contractors and other professionals who perform work related to insurance claims.
Insurance companies are notorious for delaying or denying payments, and they may even go so far as to file lawsuits against contractors who they believe have inflated their claims. This can put contractors in a difficult financial situation, as they may have to front the costs of the work themselves and wait months or even years to be reimbursed. Another danger is that contractors may be accused of insurance fraud. Insurance companies are always looking for ways to avoid paying claims, and they may accuse contractors of fraud in order to avoid paying. This can lead to criminal charges and even jail time.
Even more concerning is the fact that many unscrupulous NAMFS members look at catastrophic events like Hurricane Idalia, currently barreling towards the Florida Gulf coast right now. And while all the usual suspects come to mind for the Blacklist we are issuing today, our issuance is based more upon modus operandi than anything else. And our opinion is that if you think they are out to get you, chances are they are. Our primary concerns are that if firms think so little of you that they refuse to protect your only way of evacuation during a hurricane — as all of these folks did during the recent fuel contamination in Florida — the Profits Before People motto that is compensated to Vendor Managers as bonuses is a pretty good place to start a list from.
Northern Ohio Field Services, based out of Ohio, is where we start. As one of the larger middlemen with crews in multiple states, they have refused any acknowledgement about the fuel contamination let alone even Hurricane Idalia itself. GIS Field Services comes up next. Their cut throat tactics of raiding Labor from other organizations only to slash prices lower than anywhere else in the Industry makes them a clear and present danger to the Industry if not an outright poaching scheme bordering on corporate espionage. And as we start working towards the paper cuts requiring blood transfusions, we get closer to the Prime Vendors. Cyprexx, Guardian Asset Management, and ZVN Properties tops out that list.
As we see the fallout of Hurricane Idalia unfold over the next several days, we will update this article with financials being reported both internally as well as from Labor in the field. Our thoughts and prayers are with those as Idalia approaches!
