Is The Industry Prepared For The Coronovirus?

In a February 3rd Memo, the Office of Personnel and Management (OPM) has begun preparing guidelines to protect federal employees from the coronovirus. And while that may be comforting to US government employees, what remains problematic is contractors whom perform services upon US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) foreclosures have no idea what to do.

Coronavirus, whose official name is 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), originated in Wuhan City, China in late 2019. Some 20,630 cases and 426 deaths have been reported worldwide, according to a Feb. 4 situation report from the World Health Organization, though only one of those deaths was outside China. Symptoms include coughing, shortness of breath, and fever, according to the CDC. It’s thought to spread via close contact between people.

Whether or not the virus is in the wild is now a foregone conclusion. And with the quarantining and closing of the borders, many experts believe it will get far worse. Part of this is based upon the belief that people will inevitably seek to cross borders, illegally, for perceived better treatment and to reunite with family members.

We encourage the Foreclosurepedia Nation and the International Association of Field Service Technicians (IAFST) to reach out to their elected officials as well as their Clients for guidance upon the matter in order to protect themselves while working.

This is a link to a Real Time Map to track the virus.

Before You Go ...

Foreclosurepedia exists because readers, workers, and advocates understand that protecting Labor in the mortgage field services industry requires independence, persistence, and resources. We do not answer to servicers, hedge funds, or corporate trade groups; our accountability is to the Field Service Technicians, Inspectors and administrative personnel whose livelihoods are too often treated as expendable. Donations are what allow us to investigate quietly buried contract changes, expose abusive labor practices, and publish work that would otherwise never see the light of day. Every contribution helps keep our reporting free from industry pressure and focused squarely on defending labor standards, fair pay, and basic dignity in the foreclosure ecosystem. If you believe this work matters, your support is not symbolic—it is the reason Foreclosurepedia can continue to stand between Labor and a system that routinely exploits it.
